VR13 Digital Dual-Phase Synchronous Buck Controller with Auto-Control®, & SMBus™/PMBus™ - PV4210

The PV4210 is a single output, dual or single phase digital synchronous buck controller with adaptive loop compensation for point-of-load (POL) and DDR memory VR applications.

PV42010 uses ROHM’s Powervation digital controller technology, Auto-Control®. This proprietary adaptive auto-tuning technology uses advanced loop compensation algorithms to implement cycle-by-cycle adaptive autonomous auto-tuning, while supporting bounded auto-tuning ranges to maximize transient performance, and allows a user selectable fixed compensation mode. When used in dual phase mode, phases may be automatically added/removed as the load varies, so that efficiency is maximized over the load range.

In addition to the transient benefits brought by Auto-Control, PV4210 implements ROHM’s new Volt-Sec Boost™ (VSB™) transient suppression technology and a digitally programmable load-line.

The PV4210 complies with the Serial VID (SVID) portion of Intel’s VR13 specification in order to support Intel-based memory, low-power CPU rails, and similar applications. Through SVID, the CPU can dynamically control the output voltage, slew rates, power states, as well as monitor the VR controller for telemetry purposes. In parallel to SVID, the PV4210 also supports a set of PMBus commands.

PV4210 builds in a new, flexible PWM behavior system that provides two modes of operation to support driver & DrMOS compatibility. Additionally, to maximize system performance and reliability, the IC provides temperature correction/compensation of several parameters. PV4210 is a fully protected DC/DC solution that utilizes analog and digital functionality to maximize system protection.
